354: Are we too harsh on her?
Wednesday, September 30 @ 00:04

Just judging, just purely judging from this picture,
she looks deserved for her Miss Singapore World 2009.
I was reading Lianhewanbao at home when my granny came beside me and asked in Hokkien,
"Who is she?"
Oh, I didn't know how to phrase it in Hokkien the "Miss Singapore World",
so I said,
"Oh, she joined a beauty competition and won. Represent Singapore leh!"
She nodded her head, buipaibuipai, kua-dio jin swee. (Not bad not bad, looks pretty)
I wanted to destroy her image in my granny's mind, tell her what wrong she did, the credit card fraud.
In case she thinks that all pretty girls have the moral values in them to bring themselves as representations of a going $5 million population.
But cos I didn't know much of her fraud, I gave up.
My sis came past and told my granny she was a bad girl.
"She did bad things,"
Just one statement, not even with any elaboration,
my granny immediately rolled her eyes.
If you want Singaporeans to empathize with you, you better make a simple granny to be able to accept you first.
If not, long waiting.
It's such a cruel world Ris,
I know you don't want it, you don't want to be mocked at,
but I know I don't want it too, cos I don't want to go on to Youtube consistently to watch your interview for laughter if I desperately need one.
But, you should know in the first place,
if you want to join the competition, you want to shine, you want to Boomz Singapore out loud,
you jolly well have led your past 19 years at least with no shame or mistakes.
If you have a scarred past and you insist to be in the limelight,
then you will have to have that courage to face it someday once everything really booms out.
Life's like that.
Initially I look at your video, I was quite astonished.
I thought the judges must have been blind to have chosen you to represent a Merlion and his children.
But once the credit card fraud got exposed,
I knew you got nowhere to go but to admit them all and face it together.
You pretty know your risks before the competition,
you joined the competition,
you got mocked at, criticized and laughed at.
Now you should bear all these consequences and continue life as it is.
Give up your crown, face the punishments and on to life again.
As per normal, but this time, you will be afraid of reporters and RazorTV.
Too harsh on her?
Yes, but she got to be able to accept them.
Too harsh?
Definitely, cos it affected her family as well.
Have we actually cared for their family's feelings?
Maybe Dad and Mum advised Ris not to go for the competition,
she insisted.
The best way Ris should do is to just apologise openly for her mistake, face reality and say a good sorry to her family members.
You scold Ris, "ah you deserve it la!
This is media, this is reporter's true ugly image, Ris, too bad la."
But at the same time,
think, why are we scolding her?
It was on the newspaper, oh, she was representing Singapore.
Miss SINGAPORE WORLD 2009.
You hate to be ashamed.
So you think her parents like to be ashamed?
Singaporeans, she gave up her crown already, what else can she do?
It's time to let go and divert away from red and loud stuff like this.
Carry on life, it's just a part and parcel.
It comes, it goes.
After a few days, things go no-more.
Twenty years down the road, I mention Ris Low,
you might even say, "who is Ris Low?" or even "Why speak about her?"
